From plastic to paper or cardboard packaging
At Group Joos, we are aware of the challenges our customers face. Today, we collaborate with various partners to develop increasingly sustainable paper and cardboard packaging solutions. We also focus on adding functionality and security to packaging.
Regulatory framework and public opinion drive accelerated transition
The demand to replace plastic packaging with paper-based solutions is steadily increasing. This is due to growing awareness of the harmful effects of plastic, the relatively low recycling rate compared to paper or cardboard, and changes in European legislation. As a result, many companies are adapting their packaging strategies to comply with these regulations. Our teams use all their expertise and know-how to find the ideal solution for every customer.

New European packaging regulation (PPWR)
From August 12, 2026, the new European Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) will enter into force. This regulation replaces the existing directive and applies directly in all Member States. With this reform, the European Union aims to:
- reduce the volume of packaging and packaging waste;
- decrease the use of virgin raw materials;
- accelerate the transition to a circular economy.
Stricter requirements for companies
The PPWR imposes strict requirements on companies placing packaging on the market. European businesses will therefore need to rethink their packaging strategies. Investments in eco-design, reuse systems and traceability will become unavoidable.
